EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Corpus Christi Area Council for the Deaf, Inc. (CCACD) is to alleviate communication barriers and to strive for equal access for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
OBJECTIVES
CCACD shall be an advocate for people of all ages who are deaf or hard of hearing to enable them to express their freedoms, participate in society to their individual potential, and reduce their isolation regardless of location, socio-economic status, or degree of disability.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Executive Director serves as chief administrative officer of the Corpus Christi Area Council for the Deaf, Inc. (doing business as The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center, subsequently referred to in this document as “the Center”) and its affiliates and is responsible for development and management of its affairs. The Executive Director is responsible for: 1) executing the day-to-day operations of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center; 2) planning and administering the fiscal resources of the Center; 3) managing staff and providing for on-going staff development; 4) planning and developing unique programmatic efforts in response to needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities, 5) talking to community organizations and promoting the center to increase awareness and help solicit funds, and 6) maintaining active relationships with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities and other service providers in the Coastal Bend, the state and beyond.
DUTIES:
Leadership:
Reflects agency’s mission through leadership promoting the agency’s goals and objectives and fosters teamwork and cooperation among staff and volunteers. Serves as liaison between the Center and regional and national centers, organizations and institutions involved in the field of deaf related research, education, rehabilitation and services. Coordinates with the Board of Trustees (subsequently referred to as the Board). Operates on the basis of an annual Board-approved budget.
The Executive Director will need to have the vision, skills and commitment to lead the Center in developing new services and relationships, including partnerships within the community, to respond.
Staff Management and Development:
Develops, implements, maintains and evaluates programs for a safe, effective and efficient operation. Provides staff development and evaluations, and fosters teamwork and cooperation among staff and volunteers. Conceptualizes total service planning and generates intra-agency involvement for team planning, identifying and achieving stated objectives.
Board/Volunteer Management and Development:
Establishes reporting procedures for ongoing activities and informs Board of results. Serves as a professional consultant and liaison to the Board and provides necessary support staff to implement Board tasks. Communicates a timely and accurate flow of information. Appropriately and promptly communicates Board decisions and information among staff and volunteers.
Program Management:
Ensures that both new and existing programs are stable, of high quality with measurable outcomes. Conducts annual reviews of all Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center programs. Directs ongoing needs assessment with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center Board (An Advisory Board from the Deaf/Hard of Hearing Community). Directs procedures for the keeping of records and files to meet the reporting requirements of grants and contracts.
Community and Public Relations:
Demonstrates effective networking throughout the service delivery area, state, nation and Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities. Continues working with the city and county to provide an early voting center for the citizens of this area. Produces/updates an annual public relations plan.
Resource Development:
Coordinates plans to secure a broad base of financial support to fund the organization’s budget and provide for development campaigns. Plans for needed program delivery and staff work space within the guidelines of the Board and the Center’s goals and objectives.
Financial Management:
Oversees financial affairs of the Center. Ensures execution of budget. Controls expenditures of all programs, grants and contracts. Delegates plans for a yearly independent audit. Ensures insurance programs/coverage of the Center, Board, Staff, Volunteers, and property. Coordinates with the Treasurer.
Planning:
Provides for a collaborative planning process. Develops a strategic plan including measurable goals and objectives consistent with the Center’s mission. Provides training for Board and Staff. Encourages Board recruitment.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
BA/BS in Business, Finance, Sociology, Education, or related field.
Knowledge of or desire to actively pursue American Sign Language skills and the communication needs of persons in the deaf and hard of hearing communities, and sensitivity to Deaf/Hard of Hearing Culture.
EXPERIENCE
3 - 5 years of directly related experience with non-profit agencies in: administrative duties, working with Boards, grant writing, policy making, progressive management and public relations, budget management, staff and volunteer management supervision and proven record in fundraising.
